It seems like again I've got some sort of darker crust and misting it made it even worse. I dug in a little and it's DRY, moreover the surface itself is dry as well. I misted the 1st test board for 2 days 3-4 times a day (BTW it starts soaking the water in quite fast, I thought PRISM was supposed to bead the water?)Īfter 2 days, the place where grout was darker became EVEN DARKER and the dark area became larger, it looks wet all the time. Since we know that grout for the 1st test board was mixed too dry (see Mike's comments above), I performed a test. I figured it makes sense only if the original grout mix was too dry. It seems like when I or several other people (info from this and other threads) call CBP stating that grout seems to have cured soft, CBP gives standard "mist it to restard hyrdation" brush-off. This is mostly a bump, still don't know what's going on. 2 other times have been with white grout (once sanded and once unsanded). This is my first time grouting with coloured grout. Is it possible that mixing only 1lb at a time made it drier than it would be mixing 5 lb or so? What tests can I do to judge the stiffness of grout: In about 12 hours it will be 24 hours since grouting. Is this normal, this sounds like grout powder is coming off too easily.ĥ. Wipe the grout line of dust, pick a different spot on the towel, repeat the process - SAME result. If I take dry white cotton towel and rub a grout line, towel color changes to the grout color. It really HAS NOT changed the color in the last 8 hours so I don't think it's an issue of "grout is not dry yet", is it?Ĥ. Once I packed the grout in when it was wet, it was darker, now most of areas dried to the original powder color but some areas still have mixed grout "wet" color and some have in-between color. Color IS NOT uniform, some areas look darker than others. If I SCRATCH it hard with my fingernail, powder comes off little by little.ģ. If I push it hard with my fingernail, it does not dent. Color is warmer than Polyblend swatch (CBP told me that polyblend swatch for #512 is the same as for Prism, is it true? The color sure looks different on the test board and the Polyblend swatch).Ģ. It's been 12 hours and here are the results:ġ. I wrang the heck out of my sponge and even dabbed it and my hands on a dry towel every time after wringing the sponge. Started cleanup (don't want to wait longer than 30 min do I :)?) I waited for 30 minutes and could still push it with my fingernail fairly easily. Was very difficult to pack it into the grout lines. It more resembled a very bottom of a chunky peanut butter jar (very stiff). Consistency was in no way like peanut butter. Followed instructions exactly, DID NOT add additional water. Mixed by hand with a margin trowel on the bottom of a bucket. Mixed 1 lb of Prism #512 (light smoke) with 111 ml of water. If we need to we can have a rep come out and take a look at the job.Ī piece of CBU, 13x13 glazed porcelain tiles FlexBonded to CBU with 3/16" grout lines. If you could contact me at 80 opt.3, then you can ask for me and we can discuss it further. This additional moisture can hurt the grout. Sometimes the spoging process is used to clean the tile rather to shpe the joints and the grout is spoged 2,3,4 times in order to get the tile clean. Too much water can cause the grout to be soft. This can cause problems.ī.) Too much water during the sponging process. When you 1st add the water to the product it appears that it is not mixing in properly and the tendency is to add more water. There is a sealer in the grout and there is a learning curve to the proper mixing of this product. I understand that you have already talked to someone with Customs and some of these things have already been dicussed, but for the interest of the guys on this sight I'll revisit some of the problem causer with this product.Ī.) Too much water in the mix. There could be a number of things that could have a occured.
